I almost turned around 3 times on the way up. However, my dad talked me into going, and I know it is what my mom would have wanted me to do...

I ran my new Benelli M2. It ran great: not a single hiccup. I, on the other hand, had a (understandably) rough start. It took several stages to get my mind into the game and off of my loss. Overall, I think I did OK. Other than that, it was a clean match!

Watch all of my videos...

YouTube

I'm using the Epic Stealth cam mounted on my headphones. So I am TERRIBLE about updating the blog....

Shot the June South River match this weekend. Finished 7th in Production... Went great... The stages were fun, with a mixture of challenging courses and speed shoots. I posted several videos on youtube from the match...
http://www.youtube.com/user/hypershooteHS101
Tonight I shot the Autrey's fun shoot... I shot my 1911 for the first time in competition... FUN! Totally different strategy, but I left both stages with a huge smile... I can't wait to see the results. Verified my zero on my 16" upper. Zeroed my new scope to my 20" upper. Also checked the functioning of my new accessories. LOVE the Magpul B.A.D. and AFG. I also love the SJC comp... My heavy 20" upper does not move AT ALL: 5 shots, as quick as I could go, 2" group, unsupported at 10 yards.. Very happy with those results.

My pistols all functioned well with the new springs.

Still fighting to get a handle on Slugs over 50 yards... Still waiting on the results, but it felt good. I'm keeping my expectations realistic because the Glock team shot the match (Dave, Jessie, Randi).

I had my best match performance on a texas star to date: 7 shots to take out the 5 plates.

If I remember correctly, I had two mikes. It was a lot of fun. My shotty ran great... Not a single hiccup. The stages ranged from pure speed, to reload heavy long stages. There was even a stage where you had a choice on how to proceed through the stage (free form). Overall, I was very happy with my performance. I finished 9th overall. If I had been prepared for 100+ yard slug shots, I might have finished several spots better ( I missed 3 of the 4 long shots, adding 30 seconds in penalty time).

Lessons learned: I still need to practice (a lot) reloading. I lost a on of time to the best shooters while reloading. I am buying a shotgun shell reloader so that I can make up practice rounds to work on with (I don't like to practice with live shells in my house!) Also, I will try to work up a good load for competition. My new sights worked much better than I had hoped, but did come loose during the 2nd to last stage (luckily, they were marked and easily returned to the correct position). I need to use locktite!

So far, I have competed in Production, Limited and Limited 10. I think I will concentrate my time in Production and Limited 10. The only difference in the divisions is the Major scoring in Lim 10. Both are restricted to 10 rounds loaded per mag, so the strategy is identical for each. I will decide which division to register in based on if I have already shot the classifier (and it is currently counting in my classification %) in another match in that division...

This will leave Limited open if I have already shot the classifier in Limited 10 and Production, or if there are multiple, very long courses in the match where the extra capacity in the mags will make a big difference, or if there is a (much larger) prize table involved.

Update time!

December:

Very good month. I shot the Fort Benning 3 Gun match the first weekend of the month. Excellent match! I had a lot of fun, and had an excellent group of people on my squad. I shot well... Had a little trouble on the long range rifle stage, very hard to see far targets with iron sights, and there was a lot of wind (first time with targets past 200 yards). Did fairly well with the pistol and shotgun. I finished 11th in Tactical Irons. I was very happy with the result. I won an Adams's Arms piston conversion kit. I have since bought a new upper (Bravo Company Mid Length), and installed the kit. Absolutely love it...

The only other match in December was a Tuesday night match at Autrey's. Finished 6th in Production, but blew the classifier.

January:

Started off the month with a match at South River Gun Club. I shot in Limited because I had already shot the classifier. But, I blew it (at this point, anything below a 40% is blowing it). Shooting Limited minor didn't help the match overall... I had a stage that i had several misses, which left me with a "0" on the stage... It was a speed stage that I rushed and ... need to remember "slow is smooth ans smooth is fast".

The second weekend I went to a special classifier match at East Alabama Gun Club. I shot Production and Limited 10 (I finally got a .40 so I can make major). I did ok, but my expectations for myself are going up, so I keep looking to improve. I had several good classifiers, and a couple of bad ones... Production average for match: 47.2668 Limited 10 average for match: 42.7911 (this pistol was a police trade in with OLD night sights... I hope to get new sights soon) This score was good enought to get my initial classification in Limited 10 as a "C". For Production, my % will go up, but still solidly in low "C" range.

This weekend was my youngest's birthday.... so, no matches. However, I did get to the range today for some practice. It was a 60+ degree day, perfect to be outside. Practices draw/ time to 1st shot with multiple pistols. I also zeroed my shotgun for slugs out to 50 yards, practiced reloads, killed some clays... overall a great day.

Early November

Had the South River USPSA match last weekend. Shot in Limited because I had already shot the classifier stage for the match. Unfortunately, I blew it, so it won't help me get my classification for Limited... Shooting in Limited was great.. I was just having fun, and it was refreshing. The more I shoot, the more competitive I have become.

Went to the Griffin Steel Match today. I had a great time. Shot my G17 in production, and my Ruger Mark III 22/45 in .22 Iron. I definitely did better than the last time I shot a steel match. My overall time with my G17 was 109.76. My time in .22 Iron was 96.79. I had 2 bad string in the Five to Go stage with my .22. Shot the classifier ok, will solidify my "c" rating. Also shot the classifier in Limited, so only 1 more classifier need to get a rating in that division as well.

Finally got a range bag. That is the only word I can use to describe the match.

The stages were designed by Larry Turner... and they were simply awesome!! Cindy and Bill organized the best matches..

I shot the match on Friday, and R.O.'d the match Saturday and Sunday.

Friday: I shot well. There were shots out to 200 yards, and I was pleased with my performance on the rifle, especially since I was using iron sights. I had 1 issue where I didn't factor in hold-over, but otherwise it was good. For the close up stages, I need to remember to remove the screw-in aperture. It helps with the long shots, but is really hard to quickly acquire close targets.
My shotgun experience was mixed. Other than slow loading on my part, it ran the bird shot well. However, it hated the full power slugs. The action cycled fatser than the shells could load, causing jam after jam. The person I bought it from was also shooting the match and said all he ever used was reduced recoil slugs, so, lesson learned...
My pistol saved my match...

Saturday and Sunday were a complete learning experience. Watching some of the best competitors go through the stages was a real eye opener...

I finished 6th in Limited, and I think in the 50's overall.. Not bad! I even made a trip up to the prize table.

After the range was cleaned up, the R.O.'s got to visit a seperate prize table as well. All told, I walked away with over $135 in certificates, as well as a whole bunch of goodies... Overall, an excellent weekend.

Things to work on:
loading the shotgun quickly
finding the right slugs to cycle my shotgun
need to pattern the slugs and birdshot with different choke patterns
zero rifle to 400 yards for Fort Benning 3gun
check zero on rifle when small aperture is taken out of my iron sights

GSSF match at South River Gun Club

I RO'd my first match this weekend. Put everything into a whole new light. I spent about 1/3rd of the time scoring, and 2/3rds of the time running the timer/competitors.
The GSSF match went GREAT! I just wish I had shot well... Saturday was so busy, I only left my stage long enough to stuff down a hamburger. But, at the R.O diner that night, I got to meet "the Gunny" R. Lee Ermy and had a fun talking with him.
I managed to shoot the stages early Sunday, but found myself rushing trying to get back to work my stage. I cleaned the plate rack with my 17, but blew the first 2 strings with my 34. I did well with both guns on the Glock M stage, but blew the 5 to Glock stage with my 17. I finished 50th out of 176 with my 17 (Civilian). My misses on the plate rack ended up having me finish 108th out of 126 with my 34 (competition).

Now I am getting ready for the Area 6 Multi Gun Championship this weekend. I'll post my results next week...

One last thing: I won a stage two weeks ago. I was the highest Production shooter on the classifier... Shot solidly in the "B" range, much better than my usual high "D" to low "C" range. I never get tired of talking about this. It was my first major goal to be achieved!

New toys

I have several new additions over the past several weeks:
1) A used 12 gauge Remington 11-87. I took it out and it runs GREAT! ran 25 shells through it... quickly... no problems. I will take it out soon for some trap or skeet. I want to put more through it to get used to it.

2) A Ruger Mark III 22/45 Hunter. I took it apart tonight to clean it before using it, and the reviews are correct - taking it apart and then re-assembly suck! But, when finished, I took it out and ran 10 rounds through it rapidly... all ran perfect! This will definitely be my practice tool of choice. I also look forward to using it at Steel Challenge matches. I hope to make it to the range tomorrow to sight it in and run a few hundred rouunds through it :)

Busy week

Haven't had time to make it to the range this week. I was hoping to make it to either River Bends's match yesterday, or the Cool Springs match today, but no such luck.

However, it has been a fairly productive week. I have gotten in dry fire practice. I got my new Warren / Sevigny sights installed (I did it by myself! It took patience, some 600 grit sandpaper, a little lube, and elbow grease... But, it was well worth it.) I am slowly buying all of the tools I might need, because I figure I will be in this wonderful game for a long time, and they will eventually pay for themselves. I'm hoping to go to Glock's Armorer course soon too.

I mounted a 10 shot ext. tube to my Rem 870. It will be nice to not have to reload as often during shotgun stages . Also, I installed a fiber optic sight on the vent-rib. It will stand out better than the bead. I'm ready to head out and try these mods out. I finally picked up some slugs, so I need to test out and see Point of Impact at 50 yards. The Area 6 Multi Gun is only 5 weeks away...

My next project is to put a new collapsible stock on my SKS. My dad put a synthetic stock on it years ago, but I thought it would be a little more functional with the new style stock. However, I need to do a little dremel work to make it fit....

Lastly, I bought a Pink Cricket .22 rifle for my daughters. I have been slowly introducing them to the sport. The cricket is very small scale, and fits my 2 oldest daughters well. It is still a little large for my youngest. They can't wait to go out to the range.

Saturday"s Practice

I went skeet shooting for the first time... I was humbled... I think I hit about a third of them. Much harder than it looks. I have been getting experience shooting at targets while I move, but nothing like this. It might hook me like the IPSC stuff has... I went through 2 rounds, and then called it quits.

Next I went back to the pistol bays and practiced for awhile with my 9s again. My draw /first shot times are getting better. Still having shots go left... especially the second shot. I am thinking this is made worse by the fact that I am shooting my practice targets right to left... (i will have to test this theory next time I go out). I finished the day with the shotgun again, practicing moving/shooting/reloading.

Overall, several good hours... and fun, too!

I ordered some warren/sevigny sights, as well as a sight tool. I hope that new sights will help. I went with a fiber optic fron, but will probably order the next set with the blade front, to see which I like best. I got the tool because I figure it pays for itself after 3 sight installed (I have 2 guns now, and will replace those sights soon. A gunsmith charges $30+ for instaliation.) I also figure it will allow me to fine tune my point of aim. Lastly, I am really thing about going to the Glock Armorers course. I have already stripped my guns several times, as well as worked on the trigger on my G17. But, it would be nice to learn from the factory guys about the correct way to do it, as well as having access to get compnents directly from the factory.

Up and running!

Spent several hours tonight updating my sites.

Hypershooter

Photokopp

Setting up

First post to test out, and add a blog to my site...
