10/23 Shotgun Match
I went to the Tac Shotgun match at Riverbend yesterday. I almost turned around 3 times on the way up. However, my dad talked me into going, and I know it is what my mom would have wanted me to do...
I ran my new Benelli M2. It ran great: not a single hiccup. I, on the other hand, had a (understandably) rough start. It took several stages to get my mind into the game and off of my loss. Overall, I think I did OK. I am still awaiting the score to get posted.

Rough week
Its been a terrible several days. My mother passed away on Saturday. It was totally unexpected. She was healthy up until the end. Friday she thought she was coming down with the flu. Unfortunately, we now know that symptoms of a heart attack mimic the flu in women...
No words will ever describe the sense of loss my family and I are experiencing....

Long 3 weeks of work...
It is the busy season for photography at work. School starts next week, so last week, this week and next week are all crazy. Faculty groups, Football teams, seniors, etc... have been keeping everyone busy. I missed this month's match at southriver because I was photographing the Locust Grove football program... I was so busy that I also missed classifier matches at Autrey's and Griffin. I'm hoping to be able to go to East Alabama's Anniversary match on the 15th.

Georgia State Tactical Shotgun Match at Creekside
Shot a great match at Creekside Firing Range this weekend. It was a great mix of technical and fun stages. I felt like I did well. One of my friends who stayed around for the results said I finished 3rd or 4th... Awesome.
The match went well... I had one miss on a 30-40 yard slug target. Other than that, it was a clean match!

Watch all of my videos...
YouTube
I'm using the Epic Stealth cam mounted on my headphones. It works well. It has helped me in several ways: watching reloads, dissecting how I approached the stage, etc...

July
Finally got classified in Single Stack - "C". Still rank as a "C" in Production and Limited 10. My classification in Limited is "D".
I am trying to decide whether to keep in Production until I reach "B"class, or to switch over to Limited/Limited 10 - or even possibly Single Stack. I enjoy shooting in all 4 divisions... I think I will keep in Production, unless a match has a Classifier that is still one of my high scores in that division, in which case I will shoot Limited or Limited 10 depending on the stages...

Hello Again
Ok... So I am TERRIBLE about updating the blog....
Shot the June South River match this weekend. Finished 7th in Production... Went great... The stages were fun, with a mixture of challenging courses and speed shoots. I posted several videos on youtube from the match...
http://www.youtube.com/user/hypershooteHS101
Tonight I shot the Autrey's fun shoot... I shot my 1911 for the first time in competition... FUN! Totally different strategy, but I left both stages with a huge smile... I can't wait to see the results. My times were slowish, but I got excellent hits.

April Update
I finally got to attend a R.O. seminar at the end of last month. Got the word on Tuesday that I had passed the exam (99%), so I'm officially a R.O. I've R.O.'d local matches, as well as GSSF and the Area 6 MultiGun Championship, but I'm happy to be certified.
We start set-up for the Area 6 Championships tomorrow. It will be an awesome match, and there are currently 386 competitors... It will be a hue match! Hope to see you there....

March 21
Prom season is here... The next few weekends will be very busy.
However, I do have several events coming up:
March 27-28 - I'm taking a R.O. course.
April 16 - 18 is the Area 6 Championships. I'm shooting on Friday, and R.O.'ing on Saturday and Sunday.
I spent time reloading today - several hundred rounds of 9mm. That should cover practice etc... until the Area Match. I am planning on using the last of my Atlanta Arms 147s for the match.

Weekend Practice
Made it out on Saturday to get some range practice in. Verified my zero on my 16" upper. Zeroed my new scope to my 20" upper. Also checked the functioning of my new accessories. LOVE the Magpul B.A.D. and AFG. I also love the SJC comp... My heavy 20" upper does not move AT ALL: 5 shots, as quick as I could go, 2" group, unsupported at 10 yards.. Very happy with those results.
My pistols all functioned well with the new springs.
Still fighting to get a handle on Slugs over 50 yards... Huge drop off, almost 18" compared to where my 20 yard zero is... I'm going to try a different choke to see if it will improve.

Updates
Made a few equipment changes:
Added Magpul B.A.D. to my AR lower.
Added Magpul's AFG to my 16" upper.
Installed a SJC Titan Comp, Burris P.E.P.R. and a Bushnell Banner 1-4x to my 20" upper.
Installed a GlockWorx Hardened Bronze guide rod with a 15# ISMI spring to my Limited 10 pistol.
Installed a Wolf Guide Rod and a Wolf 14# spring to my Production pistol.
I finally used my own reloads at a match for the first time... They ran great! Time to get busy on my press, starting to run low on ammo...

Autrey's Match
Had a fun night, but shot like craaaapppp ;) I did the field course well except I had a jam after a reload, and it cost me several seconds. I was 2nd in my division in the stage, but mid pack overall. Without the jam, I would have finished very well ... The classifier was another story. TERRIBLE. I missed 1 shot STRONG HAND, and 2 shots WEAK HAND. Low 20% score... not good.

South River Feb Match
Had a great match this weekend. Still waiting on the results, but it felt good. I'm keeping my expectations realistic because the Glock team shot the match (Dave, Jessie, Randi).
I had my best match performance on a texas star to date: 7 shots to take out the 5 plates.
If I remember correctly, I had two mikes. I knew I missed one shot, and I believe I hit a barrel with the second.
Overall, I think I had good times and acceptable accuracy.

River Bend Tactical Shotgun Match
I attended/shot the River Bend Tactical Shotgun Match this weekend. It was a lot of fun. My shotty ran great... Not a single hiccup. The stages ranged from pure speed, to reload heavy long stages. There was even a stage where you had a choice on how to proceed through the stage (free form). Overall, I was very happy with my performance. I finished 9th overall. If I had been prepared for 100+ yard slug shots, I might have finished several spots better ( I missed 3 of the 4 long shots, adding 30 seconds in penalty time).
Lessons learned: I still need to practice (a lot) reloading. I lost a on of time to the best shooters while reloading. I am buying a shotgun shell reloader so that I can make up practice rounds to work on with (I don't like to practice with live shells in my house!) Also, I will try to work up a good load for competition. My new sights worked much better than I had hoped, but did come loose during the 2nd to last stage (luckily, they were marked and easily returned to the correct position). I need to use locktite!

So far, I have competed in Production, Limited and Limited 10. I think I will concentrate my time in Production and Limited 10. The only difference in the divisions is the Major scoring in Lim 10. Both are restricted to 10 rounds loaded per mag, so the strategy is identical for each. I will decide which division to register in based on if I have already shot the classifier (and it is currently counting in my classification %) in another match in that division...
This will leave Limited open if I have already shot the classifier in Limited 10 and Production, or if there are multiple, very long courses in the match where the extra capacity in the mags will make a big difference, or if there is a (much larger) prize table involved.

Update time!
December:
Very good month. I shot the Fort Benning 3 Gun match the first weekend of the month. Excellent match! I had a lot of fun, and had an excellent group of people on my squad. I shot well... Had a little trouble on the long range rifle stage, very hard to see far targets with iron sights, and there was a lot of wind (first time with targets past 200 yards). Did fairly well with the pistol and shotgun. I finished 11th in Tactical Irons. I was very happy with the result. I won an Adams's Arms piston conversion kit. I have since bought a new upper (Bravo Company Mid Length), and installed the kit. Absolutely love it...
The only other match in December was a Tuesday night match at Autrey's. Finished 6th in Production, but blew the classifier.
January:
Started off the month with a match at South River Gun Club. I shot in Limited because I had already shot the classifier. But, I blew it (at this point, anything below a 40% is blowing it). Shooting Limited minor didn't help the match overall... I had a stage that i had several misses, which left me with a "0" on the stage... It was a speed stage that I rushed and ... need to remember "slow is smooth ans smooth is fast".
The second weekend I went to a special classifier match at East Alabama Gun Club. I shot Production and Limited 10 (I finally got a .40 so I can make major). I did ok, but my expectations for myself are going up, so I keep looking to improve. I had several good classifiers, and a couple of bad ones... Production average for match: 47.2668 Limited 10 average for match: 42.7911 (this pistol was a police trade in with OLD night sights... I hope to get new sights soon) This score was good enought to get my initial classification in Limited 10 as a "C". For Production, my % will go up, but still solidly in low "C" range.
This weekend was my youngest's birthday.... so, no matches. However, I did get to the range today for some practice. It was a 60+ degree day, perfect to be outside. Practices draw/ time to 1st shot with multiple pistols. I also zeroed my shotgun for slugs out to 50 yards, practiced reloads, killed some clays... overall a great day.
